sabre à lame courbe du type 'Montmorency' ; la lame à dos plat, est à deux pans creux arrondis et deux gouttières ; la calotte est à bourrelet ; la poignée en corne est cannelée et filigranée de laiton ; la cravate en buffle remplace le drap écarlate à partir du 20 mai 1840 ; une garde à branche principale et deux branches latérales constituent la monture ; la coquille de laiton se termine par un bec INTERPRETATION DES INSCRIPTIONS : le 6 octobre 1855, à la demande du ministre, la mention inscrite sur le dos de lame est complétée par l'indication du modèle : Manufacture Impériale de Châtellerault Mars 1858 Cavalerie légère Mle 1822. M couronné : J.B.M.L.A. de Mecquenem, Directeur de la manufacture du 28 juillet 1855 au 6 août 1859. B étoilé : J.A. Bisch, Contrôleur de 1ere classe du 16 février 1844 au 31 janvier 1861. S étoilé : F.A. Schütz, Contrôleur de 2ème classe du 14 février 1854 au 29 juin 1872
