Description
Résineux ; Cordes ; Maquette du brick-goélette "Héloïse". L'Héloïse fut le dernier bateau construit sur l’emplacement de ce qui devint le cours Montalivet et le rond-point du Havre à Caen, côté Vaucelles, pour le compte des Etablissements Laffetay. L'histoire du navire est relatée dans un extrait du journal "Le Nouvelliste Normand" en date du 14 et du 21 juin 1874 : 14 juin : "Lundi 15 courant (juin) à 10 heures du matin dans les chantiers de Mr Guillemette, constructeur de navires à Caen, au lieu-dit "le Poigneux", sera lancé le brick-goélette "Héloïse", de 350 tonneaux. Capitaine : Cagnard, armateur : M. A. Laffetay, négociant à Caen." 21 juin : "Lundi matin, comme nous l'avions annoncé, a eu lieu le lancement du brick-goélette l'Héloïse. Cette opération s'est parfaitement effectuée ; une foule considérable s'était rendue sur les deux rives de l'Orne et au rond-point du quai. La force de l'impulsion a poussé le navire jusque dans la vase qui borde la rive opposée. Il a été dégagé et remorqué dans le bassin par un steamer". L'Héloïse servait au commerce avec l'Algérie et peut-être l'A.O.F. (vin ?, huile d'olive, café). Il a navigué jusqu'en 1890 date à laquelle il a sombré dans le Golfe du Lion. Le naufrage eut lieu dans la nuit du 31 octobre au 1er novembre ou dans la nuit du 1er au 2 novembre 1890. Le capitaine était alors Monsieur Auguste Victor DAVID (né en 1852 à Regnéville, Manche), son corps fut retrouvé et inhumé à Denia (Espagne).
