Argent, argent doré et écaille ; Boîte circulaire en écaille brune. Le couvercle est orné d'une plaque en argent fondu représentant un cerf pris dans des branchages suivi d'un cavalier sonnant l'hallali. Le relief est finement ciselé et porte, gravée au bas de la scène, la signature 'Kirstein orf. a Strasbourg'. Le relief est serti d'un cercle en or qui maintenait initialement le verre bombé aujourd'hui disparu. Spécialisé dans les plaques en relief ciselées montées en boîtes ou en broches, J. F. Kirstein s'est acquis dans ce domaine une célébrité internationale
