Faria : Brésil, 1849 ; Paris, 1911. Illustrateur, caricaturiste, affichiste, peintre D'origine brésilienne, Cândido Aragonez de Faria a été formé à l'école des Beaux-arts de Rio de Janeiro, il débute très jeune comme caricaturiste pour la revue A Pacotilha. En 1869 il crée son propre journal hebdomadaire O Mosquito, et récidive en 1874 avec O Mephisto- pheles. Très présent de manière générale au sein de la presse brésilienne, il collabore à un grand nombre de journaux et revues, et obtient même l'exclusivité de l'illustration à partir de 1876 pour la revue O Figaro. Deux ans plus tard il part pour Porto Allegre où il enseigne le dessin et la peinture, tout en fondant une nouvelle publication. Faria arrive à Paris en 1882, il collabore à diverses revues: la caricature, la musique pour tous, le petit français illustré, la vie pour rire...Il illustre de nombreuses couvertures de partitions musicales, plusieurs ouvrages: Conte oriental, L'émeraude des Incas, Nouvelles suédoises, Jacques la chance et Jean la guigne ...etc et crée quantité d'affiches. Dans ce secteur il aborde tous les domaines, même s'il travaille surtout pour le monde du spectacle, immortalisant les grands noms du café-concert: Paulus, Dranem, Fragson, Paulin...On connaît aussi de lui des affiches de cirque, de sport ou de tourisme. Son atelier s'accroît, il y forme de futurs talents de l'illustration. Il se distingue en donnant naissance à l'une des premières affiches de cinéma crée pour le film 'les victimes de l'alcoolisme', réalisé par Zecca d'après des textes de Zola
