Description
Après des études d’art à Santiago du Chili, Marta Colvin étudie la sculpture dans l’atelier de Zadkine à l’Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Dès son arrivée en France, elle se lie d’amitié avec Étienne-Martin et rencontre les sculpteurs Henri-Georges Adam, François Stahly, Baltasar Lobo, Juana Muller, Marie-Thérèse Pinto. Marta Colvin expose à la Jeune Sculpture en 1953 et en 1954 avant de repartir en Amérique latine. À son retour définitif à Paris, à partir de 1959, elle envoie chaque année une œuvre au Salon. Denys Chevalier lui consacre plusieurs essais critique. La sculpture monumentale qu’elle réalise à Sénart en 1970 témoigne de sa recherche de monumentalité au moyen de formes des plus archaïques. « Toute mon œuvre, depuis ses débuts, a été marquée par la monumentalité architecturale des formes de la nature du continent latino-américain », écrit-elle à Denys Chevalier en 1968.
