Description
Le film Schindler/Glass unit en une même œuvre les performances réalisées à la Glass House de Philip Johnson et la maison de R.M. Schindler aux Etats-Unis, dont la chorégraphie épouse les rythmes soigneusement désynchronisés de ses habitants. Ces deux maisons ont été construites par les architectes eux-mêmes pour abriter des relations aussi expérimentales que leur design. R.M. Schindler bâtit sa maison en 1921 pour deux jeunes couples, conçu pour un mode de vie commun. La Glass House a quant à elle accueilli l’illustre relation de l’architecte avec son partenaire David Whitney qui a débuté avant les émeutes de Stonewall et a perduré pendant plus de 40 ans. Le film de 35 minutes suit une fratrie alors qu’elle tombe en accord et en désaccord, se retrouve, se sépare, se retourne et se regroupe dans les deux maisons. Deux danseurs planent spectralement dans le lit de Philip Johnson réflétés sur un panneau de verre. Une caméra errante trace des arcs de chorégraphie à travers l’architecture de R.M. Schindler, explorant la maison comme système cadre pour l’intimité. Les danseurs entonnent des axiomes au dessus d’une chorégraphie rythmique : The home is a mathematical equation / The Family is a system of regeneration / Relationships like clockwork… (La maison es test une équation mathématique/ La famille est un système de régénération / Les relations sont réglées comme de l’horlogerie…) Réalisé avec les danseurs de L.A Dance Project et en collaboration avec SOPHIE et Lucky Dragons pour la musique originale, le film est présenté comme une installation projetée sur deux murs formant un angle oblique avec un espace entre les deux écrans et sur les côtés pour permettre la circulation. Schindler / Glass a été commissionné par Seattle Art Fair et Frye Art Museum en 2017. L’oeuvre a été présentée dans le cadre de la contribution de Gerard & Kelly à la Biennale d’Architecture de Chicago en 2017 et a fait l’objet d’une exposition personnelle à Pioneer Works (Brooklyn, New York) en 2018. ; Installation vidéo HD sur deux écrans
