Ce portrait est exposé à côté du cor d’harmonie de GUICHARD (Paris, c. 1830 ; numéro d’inventaire C114) qui est très proche au cor représenté dans le tableau ; c’est-à-dire un cor « naturel » (sans pistons) à ton de rechange, de la fabrication française de la période 1810-1830. Le cor de GUICHARD est surtout marqué par son décor de fleurs et de palmettes rouge et or émaillé sur fond noir, à l'intérieur du pavillon. On voit un décor assez similaire à l’intérieur du pavillon du cor dans le portrait. L’identité du musicien représenté et inconnue. Ce portrait est intéressant dans le contexte de plusieurs autres portraits de cornistes français de la même époque, par exemple le portrait anonyme qui représente le célèbre Frédéric DUVERNOY (c.1800), exposé au Musée de la Musique, Paris. A la différence du portrait de DUVERNOY, ce portait montre le corniste en position de jeu, sa main droite insérée dans le pavillon, pour exécuter les demi-tons.
