Description
Plaque destinée à être insérée dans un dispositif d'optique, le polyorama panoptique. Elle est constituée de plusieurs lithographies superposées peintes à l'aquarelle et collées sur un fin châssis de bois peint en noir. Ces lithographies sont translucides et selon l'éclairage apporté dans le polyorama, elles changent d'aspect sous l'effet de la variation lumineuse, qui permet de passer d'une scène diurne à une scène nocturne (effet de jour et de nuit), sur le modèle des dioramas de Daguerre. De petites perforations effectuées sur le papier ou un doublage avec des morceaux de papier colorés, sur le dos, renforcent les effets de lumière visibles en transparence. Insérée dans le montage, une languette de tissu dépasse du milieu du bord supérieur. La plaque montre la place du Carrousel, à Paris, avec l'arc de triomphe du Carrousel et le palais du Louvre à l'arrière-plan. La vue nocturne montre la même place de nuit, illuminée par l'éclairage public.
