Description
Tambour taillé d'une seule pièce dans un tronc de cocotier. De forme cylindrique, un peu plus large à la base. La caisse de résonance est fermée à sa base par une paroi de bois qui n'est pas visible. Au-dessous, le pied du tambour est découpé à jour avec huit montants de bois, sans décor. Les huit ouvertures sont taillées en forme de V peu ouvert et très allongé. La membrane est en peau de requin, épaisse, encore entière, écorchée vers le centre, déchirée sur un côté. La peau est tendue par de grosses tresses en fibres de bourre de coco fixées indirectement au moyen d'un laçage complexe de cordelettes plus fines. Les boucles supérieures des cordes de tension passent au-dessus du laçage. Un cercle rapporté, en bois, reçoit les cordes de tension en bas de la caisse de résonance. Ce cercle est attaché aux montants verticaux du pied par des ligatures croisées en fines tresses de bourre de coco. Une belle tresse plate entoure tout le tambour et la base des cordes de tension.
