Description
Présentation générale : Ce xylophone "ranat ek" se compose de 21 ou 22 lames de bois dur dont la plus longue (et la plus grave) mesure 42 cm tandis que la plus courte (la plus aiguë) atteint 30 cm. Une cordelette de suspension passe par deux orifices pratiqués à environ 7 cm des deux extrémités de chaque lame, à l'endroit précis des noeuds harmoniques. L'ensemble est maintenu par des crochets en métal fixés sur les parois internes des deux montants latéraux d'un châssis en bois richement ornementés et rappelant la forme des embarcations thaï. Le châssis du ranat ek repose sur un unique piétement central à base pyramidale. Dans le cas présent, les motifs décoratifs, comme ceux qui figurent sur l'ensemble des autres châssis, ont été dorés à la feuille. Cet instrument possède trois octaves (fa1 à mi4 ou fa4) heptatoniques aux intervalles équidistants. L'accord fin des lames est obtenu en fixant une substance résineuse sous le dessous de chacune d'elles. Description des éléments : Comprend 2 éléments : E.2005.7.1.1 et 2005.7.1.2 (châssis et lames).
