Description
Marbre polychrome, calcaire, opus tessellatum ; Mosaïque polychrome. L'emblema central représente deux combattants nus, casqués, et tenant un bouclier et une épée courte. Ce tableau est bordé d'une tresse à deux éléments entre un filet dentelé et un filet simple. Deux tresses soulignent également plusieurs motifs géométriques en médaillons. Des fleurons et des demi-cercles figurent au-dessus et en dessous de l'emblema. L'ensemble est bordé d'une tresse à trois brins. Les deux combattants ressemblent de très près à ceux qui figurent sur un groupe de sarcophages romains représentant l'enlèvement des filles de Leucippe [Robert C., Die Antiken Sarkophagreliefs, II - 2, 1890 n° 180-183 et pl. LVII-LIX]: il pourrait donc s'agir d'une représentation du duel entre Castor et Idas ou de celui qui oppose Pollux à Lyncée.
