Sur l'avers : un médaillon central doré portant l'effigie de la République couronnée de laurier, est entouré par la légende REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE * 1870 * en lettres dorées sur fond d'émail bleu. L'ensemble est entouré par une couronne de laurier argentée. Sur le revers : un médaillon central doré, portant l'inscription VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE est entouré par une fine auréole émaillée de bleu. L'ensemble est entouré par une couronne de laurier argentée. Ruban : jaune bordé de chaque côté par un liseret vert
