Description
Description des éléments : La table, les éclisses et le fond de ce petit luth sont en bois de cèdre acajou (cedrela odorata), localement appelé "cedro amargo". Sur le manche sont disposées quatorze frettes métalliques. Les cinq cordes en nylon sont tendues sur des chevilles en bois fichées sur le dos du chevillier. A noter une technique d'assemblage ancienne des éclisses collées à plat-joint sur la table et le fond de caisse qui ont été chantournés après l'encollage sur les contre éclisses. Le cuatro vénzuélien est un instrument exclusivement rythmique, les cordes sont jouées dans un seul mouvement d'aller-retour des doigts de la main droite selon la technique de "rasgueados", ce qui explique les importantes traces de jeu qui ont endommagé la partie supérieure droite de la table d'harmonie. Afin d'éviter cette dégradation, la partie supérieure de la table d'harmonie de la plupart des cuatro est aujourd'hui recouverte d'un film protecteur. Ce petit luth très léger possède une sonorité puissante parfaitement adaptée aux figures syncopées et percussives de la technique de jeu.
