La Sphinge d'Orange
Description
Cette sculpture représente un sphinx femelle, ou sphinge, ailé, avec une tête de femme, un arrière-train et des pattes de lion. Elle se trouvait assise sur un socle, ses deux pattes antérieures étaient posées en avant sur le socle. L'avant-bras droit, brisé, est légèrement relevé, suggérant que la main était placée sur un élément, peut-être une tête humaine. Elle porte un pectoral, sorte de harnais, fait de deux colliers constitués d'éléments rectangulaires. Ces colliers descendent des épaules sur la poitrine, où ils se rejoignent entre les deux premiers seins par un médaillon arrondi. Les ailes sont déployées, parallèles au corps et recourbées vers le haut à leurs extrémités. Le monstre à six paires de mamelles. La première paire ressemble davantage à l'anatomie humaine tandis que les autres se rapprochent du monde animal. Les cheveux, qui encadrent le visage à partir du milieu du front, sont longs, ramenés vers l'avant et répartis en deux mèches ondulées, striées et enroulées. Les deux mèches sont amenées vers l'arrière de la tête et nouées entre elles. Les cheveux tombent ensuite libres sur la nuque et les épaules, jusqu'au haut du harnais.
