Description
Cadre en bois patiné gris-vert. Huile sans apprêt ? ; Cette peinture de genre illustre la vie quotidienne autour de l'Arc de triomphe d'Orange. Il est alors représenté la façade nord de l'arc. L'observateur a donc une vue du nord au sud, donnant sur la ville. Il est représenté autour de l'arc, à gauche, un gendarme sur un cheval au galop ainsi qu'un berger avec sept moutons et un couple nous tournant le dos. A droite de l'arc, une diligence noire à portes jaunes et rouges, attelée de quatre chevaux, est sortie de la ville et fait le tour de la place. Un couple promène un chien, à côté se trouve un homme assis. A l'arrière-plan nous retrouvons à gauche la colline Saint-Eutrope et le mur du théâtre antique d'Orange. A droite un clocher de section carrée, probablement celui de Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth, qui aurait dû se situer à gauche (?). Dans la rue se trouvant dans le prolongement de l'arche centrale, un gendarme à cheval accompagne deux hommes se dirigeant vers Orange.
