Grâce à l'épigraphie, nous savons que la communauté juive est bien représentée en Libye dès le début du Ier siècle de notre ère. Le politeumata (réunion politique et religieuse) est, à l'égal de celui d'Alexandrie, à l'origine de décrets honorifiques. L'amphithéâtre dont il est fait mention dans ce texte pourrait correspondre à un bâtiment dévolu aux délibérations des magistrats qui forment cette assemblée. Le magistrat romain Marcus Titius, par ce décret, est honoré pour ses qualités d'administrateur. Sans doute dut-il soutenir, voire privilégier, la communauté juive de la cité dans un contexte de rivalités qui opposaient fréquemment cette dernière aux païens.
