Encadré. Profil de trois quarts, à gauche, dans un ovale, avec inscription dans un cartouche à la base. Parmi les portraits de Pétrarque, il existe une série de gravures avec profil lauré à droit ou à gauche. Le poète y est représenté avec un surplis aux plis flottants recouvert d'une petite pèlerine sur les épaules, ouverte sur le devant. La gravure de Boulonois existe donc en profil de trois quarts à droite et certains tirages sont accompagnés de vers latins : "Vatibus ignotur priscis Franciscus amorem Et coluit purum versibus et cecinit Primus item nostro fugientem ex orbe latinum Dum sequitur eusam, pellicit et revocat"
