Description
l'artiste a représenté le fort du Châtillon qui fut édifié par Napoléon Ier lors du camp de Boulogne. On peut voir en arrière plan le fort de l'Heurt, la falaise et la côte vue de Châtillon en direction du Sud en direction du Portel. Le sommet des falaises que nous apercevons est occupé actuellement par le parc de la falaise. Notre littoral présentait à ceste époque une pointe visible au centre du tableau, elle n'existe plus aujourd'hui, on sait qu'au début du 19e siècle, la plage du Portel formait une anse naturelle qui facilitait l'échouage des flobarts portelois. Elle a peu à peu disparu avec le recul de la côte en partie dû à l'extraction de pierres de mer dont on se servait à l'époque comme matériau de construction.
