Description
statuette en métal cuivreux ; "Sur un corps de femme enveloppé d'une tunique collante s'arrêtant au-dessus des chevilles, la déesse porte une tête de lionne coiffée d'une perruque tripartite encadrant sa criinère. Sur la tête le disque solaire avec une uraeus indique qu'elle est "l'oeil de Ré" échappé et réfugié en Nubie où il répand la terreur sous la forme d'une lionne. Crinière et perruque portent les traces de fines ciselures dont les détails sont estompés par l'érosion. Le dos est modelé mais lisse et sans détails. Il s'agit probablement de la déesse Sekhmet, déesse de Memphis, mais aussi de tous les lieux où le lion va boire. Appelée "La Puissante", cette déesse sanguinaire une fois apaisée était protectrice des médecins. Bastet et Ouadjet peuvent aussi revêtir cet aspect violent et prendre l'apparence d'une lionne."
