Description
Issue de la confiscation des biens religieux le 2 novembre 1789 pour en faire des biens nationaux, cette crosse est un des très rares subsistantes de la période médiévale parvenues jusqu’à nous avec sa hampe. Il s’agit du symbole d’autorité des abbesses à la tête de l’abbaye de Maubuisson, établissement cistercien d’Île-de-France fondé par Blanche de Castille, mère de saint Louis, dans le 2e quart du XIIIe siècle. Cet objet figure la conduite des religieuses de la communauté par l’abbesse, comme le rôle du Bon Pasteur du Christ qui a charge de son troupeau. #Dans la crosse de l’abbaye de Maubuisson, la hampe en argent recouvrant une tige en fer présente un décor de fleurs de lys et de chardons, références à la Vierge et à sa douleur. La pomme et son décor de perle supportent un décor d’architecture gothique. L’extrémité terminée en volute selon la forme caractéristique des crosses est en cristal de roche et évoque le sacrifice du Christ avec l’Agnus Dei qui piétine le Mal représenté par un serpent.
