A la manière d'un bas-relief antique, cette gravure représente un combat entre des fantassins et un cavalier, armés d'arcs, de poignards et de sabres. ; Cette gravure est issue d'une série intitulée "Combats et triomphes". ; La composition est ici inversée par rapport à la gravure originale de Delaune, ce qui laisse supposer qu'il s'agit d'une copie plus tardive. La technique de l'aquatinte s'étant démocratisée à la fin du 18e siècle et au 19e siècle, il est possible que cette estampe date de cette période.
