Description
Vase elliptique bas, à 4 pieds, à couvercle supérieur ajouré, orné d'un animal fantastique. (description Lansyer) vase + couvercle Ce brûle-parfum de forme ovale évoque les vases à céréales gui, caractéristiques des rites aux ancêtres des dynasties chinoises Shang (1500-1050 av. N.-E.) et Zhou de l’Ouest (1050-771 av. N.-E.). Ces bronzes présentent la forme d’un bol reposant sur une base annulaire et sont généralement pourvus d’anses. Ici, le vase a été pourvu de quatre pieds de section circulaire décorés d’un motif de ruyitu (enroulement rappelant la tête de sceptre ruyi). La panse arrondie est laissée nue, si ce n’est deux frises gravées avec vaguelettes et motifs géométriques archaïsants évoquant une lointaine origine animale. Les anses sont en forme de têtes d’éléphants stylisées se terminant par deux petites arêtes. Le couvercle est décoré d’une frise de motifs géométriques avec quatre petits retours aux angles en forme de ruyitou en ronde-bosse. Le bel ajour au sommet du couvercle représente un chilong (petit dragon) s’enroulant sur lui-même et saisissant l’extrémité de sa queue. Les fumées d’encens s’échappaient de cette partie. L’objet semble conserver les traces d’une ancienne patine brune. Il ne présente aucune inscription.
