Avant de découvrir le site de Rolleboise, Luce séjourna en Bourgogne à Asquins-sous-Vézelay, chez son ami le peintre Charles Paillet, y revenant au cours de trois étés. Il dessina et peignit lors de ces séjours une première série de baigneurs, sur la Cure, à Bessy et à Lucy. La luminosité et la vivacité de la végétation d’un début d’été sont figurées par les couleurs acidulées de ce dessin qui ont exceptionnellement gardé leurs tons malgré l’inondation, une chance.
