Acrobate
Description
Support de meuble ou ustensile en bronze moulé, à patine vert grisâtre, représentant un acrobate ; 'Le personnage marche sur les mains. Il n'est vêtu que d'un pagne, qui semble fait de lanières portant des dépressions rondes. Sa tête, aux traits accentués, peut-être négroïde, porte un bonnet à mentonnière, quadrillé. Sous les pieds, tenon de fixation; le plan sur lequel reposent les mains n'est pas parallèle à celui du dessous des pieds. On pensera alors à un élément de trépied, ou de support de ce genre. Nous connaissons un certain nombre de statuettes de ce type, très voisines. On les a crues étrusques, ou de descendance étrusque, mais elles sont toutes d'époque romaine, largement diffusées dans tout l'Empire. Le thème, le type de la tête, le lieu de découverte de l'une au moins font bien davantage penser à un thème d'origine alexandrine. Certaines ont comme celle-ci un tenon sous les pieds, d'autres non.' Autun, Augustodunum, p. 101, n°150 ; 'L'équilibriste marche sur les mains. Le visage à la bouche épaisse, au nez épaté, aux grands yeux dont la pupille était incrustée d'argent ou d'une pierre, est de type africain. La tête est coiffée d'un bonnet quadrillé, muni d'une mentonnière. Le personnage porte pour tout vêtement un pagne orné de bandes verticales, décorées chacune de quatre cercles. Le corps est cambré en arrière et les jambes sont réunies; le bras droit est brisé. Une sorte de tenon apparaît entre les plantes des pieds, la figurine serait peut-être de support de lampe.
