Description
collier composé de 30 perles multicolores. Frédéric Moreau (1798-1898), notable en retraite dans le canton de la Fère, entreprit en 1873 dans l'Aisne des fouilles archéologiques qu'il poursuivit pendant 20 ans. Il aurait fouillé selon ses estimations environs 12 000 tombes mérovingiennes et accumulé une importante collection. Frédéric Moreau fit considérablement progresser l'archéologie mérovingienne en livrant une documentation énorme. Il rédigea 24 volumes de procès-verbaux de fouilles. Il confia à Jules Pilloy, archéologue et bon dessinateur, (1830-1922) les pièces les plus intéressantes de sa collection que ce dernier reproduisit grandeur nature et en couleurs. Frédéric Moreau fit paraître de 1877 à 1893 une série de fascicules non paginés associant les planches de Pilloy à un commentaire succinct. L'ensemble est généralement désigné sous le nom d'Album Caranda. Il distribua une partie de sa collection à des musées, parents et amis. Le reste fut légué à sa mort au Musée des Antiquités Nationales de Saint-Germain-en-Laye
