12 août 1870, les parisiens aux fortifications Le dessin montre l’avenue des Champs Élysées avec à l’arrière plan, au centre du dessin, l’arc de triomphe. Semblant à mi hauteur de l’avenue, une grille a été fixée avec un poste de garde. Un mur est en cours de construction. Des arbres sont abattus et sont taillés, des charrettes tirées par des chevaux se concentrent à droite du dessin. Des hommes travaillent à monter un mur. Sur la partie gauche du dessin, une foule se constitue, un homme est monté à cheval. Derrière la barricade les Champs Élysées sont vides de piétons et de circulation à part des charrettes allant et venant en apportant des matériaux pour la barricade.
