Description

Argent à 84 % ; Cette pièce dont le nombre d'exemplaires frappés est très contesté, a été fabriquée avec les lingots d'argent récupérés sur le vaisseau hollandais "Ouvidor" par le corsaire français Pierre Bouvet commandant le navire "l'Entreprenant". Elle fut nommée "piastre Decaen" par les habitants de l'île, du nom du gouverneur de l'époque. En général, comme ici, le revers de cette monnaie est partiellement effacé. Cela est dû à la frappe mécanique artisanale du graveur Aveline. Les exemplaires sur lesquels la légende "dix Livres" est nette peuvent être considérées comme exceptionnels. Sur l'avers, au centre de la pièce, l'aigle impérial est surmonté d'une couronne tandis que sur le revers, on a gravé la valeur de la pièce entourée de feuilles de lauriers. La tranche est simplement striée. Poids officiel : 26 gr.
