Description

Camée à tête masculine de profil vers la gauche. Visage fin au nez grec, front bas, petit menton rond, cou puissant. Chevelure courte et bouclée. Tête ceinte d'un ruban disposée assez bas sur le front et l'occiput. Le style est ici assez sévère et oppose le modelé du visage assez fruste de la chevelure faite de traits courts désordonnés donnant peu de volume au mèches. ; ; Présente la tête d'un athlète vainqueur ayant noué autour de ses cheveux le ruban de la victoire. Cette figure est inspirée de la statue de Polyclète, « le Diadumène », la représentation de cette ?uvre fut très en vogue à l'époque romaine, en particulier à la fin de la République, lorsque les romains multiplièrent dans leurs jardins ou leurs maisons les statues grecques ou leurs copies. Le type du Diadumène apparaît aussi en petite dimension sur les intailles où il y figure gravé en entier ; la série reproduisant seulement la tête date de la fin de la République et de la période augustéenne.
