Description
le reliquaire de Saint-Saëns contenait probablement un fragment du fémur de saint Sidoine. D'origine irlandaise, disciple de saint Philibert, le fondateur de l'abbaye de Jumièges, ce saint fut à l'origine de la création du prieuré de Saint-Saëns au VIIe siècle. La structure sous-jacente du bras est en chêne évidé. Elle est plaquée de tôles d'argent battu clouées qui couvrent la main et l'avant-bras. Celui-ci est vêtu d'une manche d'aube recouverte de plaques d'argent plissées horizontalement, bordée d'un galon doré orné de filigranes gemmés. Parmi ces gemmes se trouvent trois réemplois : deux intailles romaines et un châton de grenats cloisonnés d'origine mérovingienne (fin du Ve siècle). La manche de l'aube est prolongée par la manche, plus large, de la tunique, recouverte elle aussi de tôle d'argent plissée en diagonale. Un large galon fait d'une alternance de plaques de cuivre gemmé et filigrané et de médaillons émaillés sur un côté (avers, gauche), d'argent estampé scandé de médaillons émaillés sur les autres, la borde entièrement.
