Description
Ces outils et armes de l'âge du Bronze, dont la production et l'utilisation appartiennent au IIe millénaire avant J.-C., proviennent de découvertes fortuites ; leurs contextes chronologiques et archéologiques restent alors inconnus. Ils prouvent cependant que des hommes ont franchi la Garonne à la hauteur de Toulouse et ont au moins traversé, si ce n'est occupé, cette région. Dans Toulouse même, à ce jour, seul un habitat structuré, datant de la période transitoire entre l'âge du Bronze et l'âge du Fer, soit IXe/VIIIe siècle avant J.C., a pu être observé , en 1988, sur le site de l'ancien hôpital Larrey, au sud du gué du Bazacle. Dès sa découverte et tout au long du IIe millénaire avant J.-C., le bronze est un métal précieux qui tient lieu de monnaie d'échange, l'épée, en particulier, n'a peut-être pas été perdue, mais volontairement jetée dans le fleuve en l'honneur d'une divinité fluviale, peut-être en remerciement d'un échange fructueux entre deux hommes.
