Description
Au droit, les successeurs d'Alexandre le Grand s'identifient eux aussi aux dieux. Ici, Poséidon, aux boucles ondulantes rappelant les vagues, couronné de végétaux marins, fait référence au rétablissement de la suprématie de la Macédoine sur les mers. Divin et naturalisme fusionnent. Au revers, BASILEÔS ANTIGONOU («le roi Antigone»). A la mort d'Alexandre le Grand, son immense empire est divisé en royaumes, dirigés par ses généraux (les diadoques). Ils deviennent des rois (basileis) et cherchent à étendre leur influence. Une succession de conflits modifient les frontières des états. Statue d'Apollon et navire avaient été offerts au dieu, sur l'île de Délos, dans un monument prévu à cet effet (le Néôrion). Ils commémoraient une victoire sur mer. L'archéologie semble confirmer cet ensemble. Pascal Capus , 2016
