Description
Calcaire taillé ; Ne subsiste que la base d'un chandelier sous laquelle apparaissent les extrémités du majeur de l'annulaire et de l'auriculaire d'une main droite d'un ange. De section heptagonale, l'objet a la forme d'un entonnoir renversé. Son volume va décroissant jusqu'à l'anneau médian et forme ainsi une sorte de calice aux côtés triangulaires et concaves. Ce fragment appartient incontestablement à une ronde-bosse polychromée, aujourd'hui disparue et qui représentait à l'origine un ange céroféraire. Il fut découvert en 1907 lors d'une fouille d'un égout de la rue Musette "prolongée" à Dijon. On le trouva à proximité d'une autre sculpture fragmentaire, une tête d'ange avec laquelle il fut mis en relation. L'église Saint-Bonnet-de-Cray, en Saône-et-Loire (voir cliché joint), conservait jadis deux anges céroféraires en pierre, datables du XVe siècle. L'un des anges tient des deux mains un chandelier dont il ne subsiste également que la base. Légèrement incliné, il plaque son attribut contre sa hanche gauche. La base caliciforme du chandelier et la façon dont la main tient le pied de l'objet sont voisines de celles-ci. Le fragment du musée archéologique semble bien dater également du XVe siècle.
