Description
Cabinet monté posé sur un support à hauteur d'appui. Ouvre à deux vantaux et à deux tiroirs sous une corniche saillante. A l'intérieur, douze tiroirs encadrent deux battants cachant une niche à marqueterie polychrome. Le meuble présente, selon une tradition venue d'Allemagne, des moulures ondées qui soulignent la corniche et la base, délimitent la frise supérieure et divisent verticalement la façade. Des bas-reliefs sculptés à la gouge dans l'épais feuillets d'ébène, ornent la frise supérieure de rinceaux et de dauphins aux queues vrillées. Sur les vantaux, un décor historié est sculpté sur deux médaillons à douze pans, en saillie, flanqués d'écoinçons. Les sujets inspirés du Nouveau testament: à gauche le baptême du Christ dans le Jourdain, à droite la naissance de St Jean-Baptiste sur un fond de lit drapé de rideaux. Un décor gravé de tournesols, plus ou moins épanouis enrichit la façade extérieure. Derrière les vantaux, de nombreux tiroirs entourent deux portes médianes, simplement bordés de moulures droites. L'effet de surprise se manifeste à l'ouverture des battants, qui laissent voir un espace aménagé à la façon d'un petit théâtre à l'italienne, richement marqueté de bois polychromes. Ce décor d'architecture est traité en perspective feinte avec des points de fuite soulignés par des incrustations d'ivoire, un dallage en damier, un plafond posé en biais. Un jeu de quatre miroirs multiplie les arcatures en plein cintre créant dans le fond l'illusion d'une chambre en rotonde. L'arcade centrale s'ouvre en son milieu découvrant le 'secret': deux rangs de quatre petits tiroirs superposés dissimulés au cœur du meuble.
