Wallet, Emmanuel-Herman-Joseph. Né le 21/06/1771. Fils de Bertin-Louis et de Marie-Catherine Walleux. Mort à Douai le 09/02/1855. Elève du baron Jean-Baptiste Regnault, peintre d’histoire. Wallet obtient une médaille à l’Académie de Paris. Il embrasse une carrière militaire, devient officier-adjoint au corps du génie militaire, puis professeur de dessin à l’école d’artillerie et ensuite à l’école de peinture de Douai. On lui doit des travaux sur Saint-Omer : Description de l’ancienne abbaye de Saint-Bertin à Saint-Omer en Artois (Douai, 1834, texte accompagné de 8 planches) ; Description d’une crypte et d’un pavé mosaïque de l’ancienne église Saint-Bertin (1843, figures et 8 planches) ; Description de l’ancienne cathédrale de Saint-Omer (1839, figures et 10 planches) ; Description du pavé de l’ancienne cathédrale de Saint-Omer (1847, figures et 10 planches). Wallet réalise en outre des planches pour l’Atlas artistique topographique et pittoresque de la ville de Saint-Omer. Le musée des Beaux-Arts de Douai possède plusieurs dessins de l’artiste : M. de Wavrechin (colonel de la garde nationale, après sa mort, dessin au crayon noir) ; Abraham en extase dans la vallée de Membré et Une scène d’ostracisme.
