Né de parents juifs russes émigrés, Boris Taslitzky (1911-2005) peint dès ses 15 ans et entre en 1928 à l'école des Beaux - Arts de Paris. En 1933 il adhère à l'Association des écrivains et artistes révolutionnaires, et au PCF en 1935. Engagé dans la résistance, il est arrêté en novembre 1941, et déporté à Buchenwald où il parvient à faire quelque deux cents dessins qui témoignent de la vie des camps. Après-guerre, en 1946, Boris Taslitzky expose en 1946 ses ouvres inspirées par la Résistance et la déportation. De 1971 à 1980, Boris Taslitzky enseigne le dessin à l'École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs et se fait un des défenseurs du réalisme socialiste en France
