Michelez C
MICHEL : Fins, 14/01/1817 ; Paris, 1905 ; Peintre de sujets religieux, de portraits, d'histoire ;#Pastelliste, Charles-Henri MICHEL est issu d'une famille de cultivateurs. Il fait ses premières études artistiques auprès du peintre péronnais Jules Dufour, son aîné de quelques années, puis dans l'atelier du maître péronnais Auguste Dehaussy. Lauréat à 20 ans d'un concours artistique départemental, il passe quelques temps à Anvers pour en étudier les grands maîtres, puis s'arrête à Paris pour parfaire sa technique du dessin. Après un retour à Péronne de 1848 à 1851, il s'installe définitivement à Paris. Jusque 1854, il visite l'Italie et en rapporte de nombreuses études ; il y trouve également sa voie : la peinture religieuse, notamment à travers l'Evangile. Il expose deux oeuvres au Salon des Artistes Français de 1861 et obtient une médaille de 3e classe ; puis une autre de 2e classe en 1865 avec son Jésus source de vie acheté par l'Etat et offert au Musée d'Amiens. Il obtient enfin une médaille de 1ère classe en 1868, avec son Dépouillement. Nombreux sont également les portraits exécutés par Michel. Pastelliste rigoureux, il se distingue par la finesse et la grâce de ses oeuvres. A sa mort à l'âge de 88 ans, il laisse derrière lui de très nombreuses oeuvres après plus de 65 ans de production ininterrompue.
