1861 ; 1967 ; En 1860, Charles Avril devient actionnaire de la tuilerie Georges et Compagnie située à Montchanin et créée en 1858 puis en devient propriétaire quelques années plus tard. En 1879, il fonde la Société Anonyme de la Grande Tuilerie de Bourgogne et développe rapidement un processus de fabrication et de manutention très mécanisé, en installant notamment des fours continus vers 1900. L'usine fusionne en 1938 avec la Société des grandes tuileries bourguignonnes de Chagny (Société des grandes tuileries de Bourgogne Chagny-Montchanin) elle-même absorbée par la société Lambert Frères en 1963. La tuilerie de Montchanin ferme ses portes en 1967.
