Bien que peintre de grand talent selon ses contemporains, Auguste Dehaussy semble avoir toujours refusé la notoriété et n'avoir produit que peu d'ouvres, contrairement par exemple à son frère, Jules, dont l'importante production et la réalisation de portraits de notables firent la renommée.
