Daum Verrier Manufacture
DAUM : Bitche, 1853 ; Nancy, 1909 : Bitche, 1864 ; Nancy, 1931 ; nationalité : Française#MANUFACTURE DAUM : Jean DAUM (1825-1885) achète en 1878 à Nancy la verrerie Sainte Catherine. Il y associe ses deux fils, Auguste en 1879 et Antonin en 1887. Après des études classiques, Auguste passe sa licence de droit à la faculté de Paris. Il abandonne sa carrière de notaire pour s'occuper de la gestion de l'entreprise de son père. Il devient, en 1904, président du tribunal de commerce de Nancy. En 1909, à la mort de son père, c'est son frère Antonin qui reprend seul l'affaire familiale. En 1887, il sort diplômé de l'Ecole Centrale de Paris, date à laquelle il entre dans la verrerie pour s'occuper du renouvellement des formes et des décors des pièces. La gestion d'Auguste et le talent créatif d'Antonin vont donner à l'entreprise une nouvelle dimension économique et artistique, notamment avec la création en 1891 de la section artistique des verreries de Nancy. Plusieurs techniques sont développées par l'entreprise, la vitrification des poudres entre autres.
