Gènes, 1609 vers ; Mantoue, 1665 ;# attribué à Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, peintre actif auprès du duc de Mantoue, mais qui séjourna dans toute l'Italie. Son oeuvre se partage en trois périodes : la première, à Gênes avant 1632, marquée par l'influence des peintres de genre d'origine flamande où il développe des scènes animalières à prétexte biblique -comme celle de Mâcon ?- la deuxième, à Rome entre 1632 et 1651, où il est en relation tout d'abord avec le cercle de Poussin -dont l'influence pourrait se retrouver ici- qu'il délaisse pour entrer en contact avec Le Bernin et Pierre de Cortone. Ces oeuvres prennent alors une touche fantastique et baroque. Il termine sa carrière à Mantoue sur une note mystique. Il fut dans le même temps un brillant dessinateur et graveur. Son goût, de plus en plus prononcé pour la surcharge bizarre, ses compositions baroques ne se retrouvent pas dans ce tableau.
