Casse Germaine 1881 1967
Germaine Casse était la fille du député guadeloupéen Germain Casse (1837-1900). Après une enfance passée aux Antilles, elle se forma à la peinture en Avignon. Dès 1920, elle séjourna pendant deux ans en Guadeloupe et en rapporta une centaine de tableaux qu'elle présenta à l'exposition coloniale de Marseille de 1922. Chargée de mission par le ministère des colonies, elle revint pour un séjour de deux années en Guadeloupe (1923-1925), dans l'objectif de développer la formation et la vie artistique. Elle organisa notamment la première exposition d'art en Guadeloupe sur la place de la Victoire à Pointe-à-Pitre du 12 au 14 mai 1923. La Plage sous le fort, datée de 1923 et dédicacée à Marcel Ruedel, directeur des Annales coloniales, y a sans doute été exposée.
