Cano Alonso Ecole De
Grenade, 1601 ; Grenade, 1667 ; formé à Séville par Pacheco et Montanes, il est l'un des artistes les plus personnels et les plus significatifs de l'art baroque espagnol. Ami de Velasquez et rival jaloux de Zurbaran, il se rendit à Madrid en 1638 pour revenir dans sa ville natale en 1652 en qualité de prébendier de la cathédrale, pour finalement être ordonné prêtre en 1658. Sa triple activité de maître dans les trois arts majeurs (peinture, sculpture et architecture) laissa une empreinte profonde aussi bien à Grenade qu'à Madrid où son influence sur le retable baroque a été décisive. Comme dessinateur il est peut-être le plus prolifique et le plus complet de tous les artistes espagnols de son siècle et depuis Palomino, on a fait l'éloge de son invention pour les dessins à la plume.
