SEVIN : ?, 1821 ; ?, 1888 ; BARBEDIENNE : Industriel français principalement connu pour sa fonderie de bronze de reproduction. Il s'associe en 1838 avec le mécanicien Achille Collas (1795-1859), qui venait d'inventer un procédé de reproduction en bronze et à plus petite échelle, d'objets d'arts. En 1839, Barbedienne fonda la maison où il fit reproduire en bronze la plupart des statues des musées d'Europe réduites pour pouvoir orner les intérieurs modernes. Son idée était de démocratiser l'art, en rendant accessible de fidèles reproductions de chefs d'oeuvre. Les thématiques privilégiées sont l'antique et les allégories. Il appliqua ses procédés aux travaux des sculpteurs de son époque (Barye, Fremiet, Mène, etc.) et créa de très nombreux modèles de bronze d'ameublement, des émaux, cloisonnés, hauts et bas-reliefs en bois etc. Par les contrats d'édition qu'il leur proposait, il contribua à leur succès par la diffusion de leurs oeuvres. C'est son neveu et successeur, Gustave Leblanc-Barbedienne, qui développa la fonderie en se spécialisant dans les bronzes monumentaux. En France, beaucoup de monuments aux morts sont signés Leblanc-Barbedienne.
