Quelques éléments historiques : La ville d'Eu acheta le château en 1964 et y installa en 1973 sa mairie et un musée destiné à recueillir les souvenirs des princes d'Orléans et de la Monarchie de Juillet.
Les atouts de ce musée sont : Ultime demeure royale française, présentant mobilier, porcelaine, orfèvrerie, tableaux et souvenirs historiques attachés aux princes d'Orléans et à la première Entente Cordiale ; Berline du roi Jean V de Portugal (1727). Il est lié à la figure de Louis-Philippe.
