En 1981, l'exposition Finir en beauté que Bernard Lamarche-Vadel organise dans son appartement adoube un vaste mouvement de retour vers la peinture et la figure. François Boisrond (né en 1959), aux côtés de ses complices d'alors, Hervé Di Rosa, Robert Combas ou Rémi Blanchard, est l'un de ces mousquetaires de la Figuration Libre qui penchent sans réserve, après une décennie de spéculations conceptuelles, du côté d'une peinture décontractée qui lorgne sans vergogne vers des modèles issus de la culture populaire : cinéma, télévision, bande-dessinée, publicité, musique rock etc... Son style d'alors est concis, vif et hilare, composant une « signalétique » d'une redoutable efficacité. Il exécute d'un geste assuré ses peintures à l'acrylique sur des toiles au format magistral ou des supports de fortunes, cartons grossiers ou vieux journaux, ici une page de La tribune de Genève.
