Description

Samson, les yeux crevés, gémit entre les mains des Philistins. Il est emmené à la prison de Gaza où, chargé de chaînes, les Philistins l'enfermeront et où ils lui feront tourner la meule d'un moulin. Au premier plan, à gauche, un soldat portant une tunique en cuir et tissu, de dos, lève un fouet de son bras droit. A sa droite, un homme de dos brandit une épée. Au deuxième plan, au centre du tableau, Samson, ceint d'une ceinture et d'un tissu rouge, est penché vers l'avant. Ses muscles sont saillants, un homme pose sa main sur son bras gauche. Il a les yeux crevés, du sang coule de ses yeux. Il porte une boucle d'oreille. A l'arrière-plan, une foule d'hommes saisis de face. A gauche, deux d'entre eux tiennent des lances. La contreplongée accentue l'effet de masse du corps de Samson. ; Huile sur toile
