La création de cette oeuvre remonte à la 4e quart 17e siècle;1ère moitié 18e siècle. Complément d'information : CIPPER : Feldkirch, 1664 ; Milan, 1736 ; Peintre d'origine germanique, CIPPER développe essentiellement son art en Italie, d'où son surnom. Il multiplie les scènes de genre réalistes avec des études psychologiques de personnages. Les recherches, initiées dans le premier quart du XXe siècle, se poursuivent sur la vie et le travail de Giacomo Francesco Cipper, peintre d'origine germanique, né vers 1670, mort en 1738. Surnommé le Todeschini, il travaillait en Italie et deux toiles sont le point de départ du corpus de son œuvre : à Milan la première 'scène de genre' datée de 1705, l'autre à Hampton Court, de 1736, représentant 'le peintre dans son atelier'. Depuis, un groupe de tableaux précédemment attribués à Le Nain ou à Murillo, enrichissent l'ensemble. Il faut y ajouter la peinture de Mâcon. En réalité, on constate un procédé qui devient artificiel, ou du moins stéréotypé, sans réelle différence entre les diverses périodes du peintre, pas ou peu d'évolution dans son œuvre ; l'artiste traitant avec une certaine monotonie les mêmes sujets. On y retrouve des éléments communs avec une occupation de l'espace maximale par de grands personnages en buste, avec une position de figures tournées intentionnellement vers un éventuel spectateur, ainsi que d'autres détails qui deviennent caractéristiques de l’œuvre de Cipper : des visages larges légèrement grimaçants, au sourire montrant des petites dents écartées, des costumes et des objets presque identiques d'un tableau à l'autre, comme s'ils étaient puisés chez une costumière de théâtre. Il en est de même dans l'attitude de l'homme et de la femme qui 'tendent' au spectateur, objets ou animaux, comme si l'ensemble de la composition devait évoquer l'idée de devanture.
