Description

Au début du 20e siècle, le peintre Maurice Denis reçu la commande de décorer une des salles de l'hôtel particulier du collectionneur russe Ivan Morozov à Moscou. Lié à Maillol, le peintre parla au collectionneur de la splendeur de la sculpture de Maillol et lui demanda d'inclure la sculpture de cet artiste dans la décoration qu'il était en train de réaliser. Sur les conseils de Maurice Denis, Ivan Morozov rencontra Maillol et, après aimé sa sculpture, lui acheta quatre oeuvres qu'il renomma Les Saisons, composées de : La Pomone (1910) exposée au Salon d'Automne la même année à Paris, L'Eté sans bras (1911), Flore (1911) et Le Printemps (1911). Aujourd'hui, ces quatre oeuvres sont conservées au musée Pouchkine à Moscou.
