Description
Huile sur bois ; peinture présentant, un vieillard ailé (symbole de sa rapidité) portant barbe et cheveux blancs, vu de trois quart courant sur un chemin. D'une main, Saturne [figure emblématique du temps] tient à la hauteur de ses yeux, une lanterne de poche allumée (boîte contenant une bougie dont la flamme soutient le fléau d'une balance : attribut de Saturne, qui règle les ans les saisons et les jours) et de l'autre une faux, symbole de sa puissance destructrice. Il est vêtu d'une tunique courte et porte à sa ceinture un objet (indéterminé) ; à gauche, inscription latine comme gravée sur une plaque de pierre. Au second plan, le chemin mène à une maison et à un bosquet d'arbres. A l'arrière-plan, paysage vallonné avec à gauche, un groupe de maisons (fortifiées ?) et une église. Jolie série à sujets allégoriques (Le Temps/ minerve ou le génie se cachant dans l'ombre /le Semeur / Minerve retient le gouvernement) de forte belle qualité. L'élément du paysage sylvestre met en valeur la puissante et habile rhétorique des figures.
