Description
Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, future Madame de Pompadour, épouse en 1741 Charles Guillaume Le Normant. De cette union naît Alexandrine Jeanne Le Normant d’Étiolles (1744-1754). Lorsque Madame de Pompadour devient officiellement la favorite du Roi en 1745, elle emmène l’enfant à la Cour de Versailles, qui y demeure jusqu’en 1749, date à laquelle elle est placée au couvent des dames de l’Assomption, rue Saint-Honoré à Paris. À partir de ce moment, Madame de Pompadour, très attachée à sa fille, la fait venir régulièrement à la Cour. Elle nourrit pour elle de grandes ambitions mais Alexandrine décède d’une péritonite en juin 1754 avant même d’avoir atteint l’âge de dix ans. Son décès est un traumatisme pour Madame de Pompadour qui ne se remettra jamais de la perte de son enfant.#On connaît peu de représentation d’Alexandrine Jeanne Le Normant d’Étiolles. François Boucher exécute d’abord le portrait de l’enfant au pastel, puis il en fait cette réplique à l’huile. La première œuvre fut léguée au marquis de Marigny, frère de Madame de Pompadour et directeur des Bâtiments du roi de 1751 à 1773.#Signée et datée sur la cage à oiseau en bas à droite "f. Boucher - 1749", la toile acquise pour le château de Versailles en janvier 2019 (inv. V.2019.29) présente des traits caractéristiques du peintre favori de Madame de Pompadour, comme, par exemple, la touche libre qui décrit le tissu bleu de la robe, la rose et le brin de muguet.
